What is an AKC Dog Show and Why Do We Have Them?
An American Kennel Club Dog Show (also called a Conformation Event) is a competition where purebred dogs are judged as to how well they conform to their breed standard. The intention is to evaluate breeding potential for the production of quality puppies.

Discover What It Really Takes to Show a Dog
"When Jan and I met and married, we each had our own breed—Jan had Pekingese, and I had Brittanys. We were eager to start showing our dogs, but honestly, we didn’t know what we were doing!
Eventually, we realized that our dogs weren’t "show quality" and that we needed guidance. We faced two major obstacles that many newcomers experience, and it was frustrating enough that we almost gave up on showing dogs altogether.
But we didn’t quit. A few years later, we did the research, found show-quality puppies, and sought out mentors to guide us.
Even with that new knowledge, the learning curve was steep, and we made plenty of rookie mistakes along the way. But this time, we had the tools and support to overcome those challenges—and soon, we were celebrating our first champions!
That success has continued to this day, and now we’re here to share everything we've learned with you."

Success Stories From The Show Ring

Nancy Lane
Lazyhearts Kennel
"I have worked together with Jan and Todd at dog shows and more for years. The knowledge and experience they have poured into Go Show Dogs! will REALLY mentor you from puppy selection to your first CHAMPION!"

Tommy Dahl
Elkhorn Mtn. Brittanys
"I got started in shows as a teenager with my first Brittany out of Michigan. Living in Montana, my boy's breeder couldn't be there physically to mentor me, but Todd and his family stepped up and took me under their wing. With their guidance I learned how to groom Brittanys, better my handling skills, and later the friendship and support they offered helped me to get where I am now.
Since meeting them I've finished four champions of my own breeding, three of which have gone on to be Grand Champions, and one of those has gone on to be a multiple group winner and placer, both in Variety and Owner Handled, a Reserve Best in Show Winner, and a Best Owner Handled In Show winner. I've also taken the skills I've learned from Todd and everyone else who's helped me, and finished, several champions for other people. I wouldn't be where I am without the Breitenfeldt family."

Dave Carey
Brittany Belle goes Grand Champion

Go West Border Collies

Judie Lucas
Silver Fox Samoyeds
Jan was my best friend for over 40 years and was with me when I purchased my first Samoyed. I later purchased a show dog and when Jan saw how much fun I was having, she purchased a "show quality" Pekingese. My dog didn't make it as a show dog and neither did Jan's, but we persevered. I ended up breeding my own first Champion and Jan found excellent breeders to purchase a real show quality Peke from, and we were off! We made a lot of mistakes along the way but we kept going and shared information that we each had learned from others. In limited showing, I have finished 17 dogs, 15 of them home bred and put Grand Championships on 5 as well as a Group 3 placement and an Owner Handled Best In Show. We help each other and through these friendships, I've shown Brittanys, Pekingese, Japanese Chin, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Curly Coated Retrievers, Gordon Setters and Afghan Hounds as well as Samoyeds. Go Show Dogs! has all the information in one place that we spent many years learning and is a fitting legacy for Jan.

Pam and Ron Noe
Treasure State Brittanys
We met Todd and Jan through the Montana Brittany Club. Todd offered to help us show our Brittany Sadie. He was able to get two ribbons showing her even though she had no training or experience in the show ring. Todd and Jan were so helpful and encouraging, giving us tips and information for successful showing.

Jo Ann Kish
"Go Show Dogs! will help you select the pup with the best conformation. You will learn how to develop the skills necessary to show your dog and win without making the mistakes that are made by those new to the fancy."

Kelsey Darnell
Derp Crew Dog Shows
"Go Show Dogs is a wonderful starting point for beginners and those already showing who are looking for a reputable, positive mentorship for showing dogs. Jan's legacy through Todd and Go Show Dogs will bring and keep more people in the dog fancy and keep the love of the sport of purebred dogs alive and thriving."
